Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducatis’ Jakub Smrz is facing a four-week layoff after breaking his thumb in a crash during qualifying at the Snetterton MCE British Superbike round this afternoon.
Smrz was in collision with the Gearlink Kawasaki of Victor Cox right at the end of qualifying one which resulted in a break of his left thumb which circuit doctors have said will need four weeks of rest.
“We were confident of getting into qualifying three and definitely second row if not front row. We have had excellent pace all weekend and it was the most positive we have been so far right up until the incident with Mr Cox on the last lap,” said a visibly-furious team boss Steve Moore.
“The long and short of it is it was a horrible accident, the bike is smashed to pieces, Jakub has broken the thumb on his left hand which will put him out for four weeks.
“Right up until the last few seconds of qualifying one, everything was going perfectly. We had some new parts from Ducati, a new clutch from EVR which worked perfectly and genuinely solved the problem of getting the bike off the line.”
Smrz will fly home to the Czech Republic tomorrow for more advice while BSB race direction have the collision to be a racing incident.
