Supersport's Mossey targets Assen return

Techcare rider Luke Mossey has not been on a bike since crashing in the opening Motorpoint British Supersport free practice session at Oulton Park in August. The youngster fractured his vertebrae and has spent his time recovering. Now he is fit and will be back racing at Assen.

“As I suffered a back injury I have not been doing much, just resting as it has been really painful, but I have been getting myself ready for Assen. I will definitely be at Assen and I got pole there last year and I can’t wait. I love the circuit and it suits my riding style,” said Mossey, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I was doing well at Oulton Park until I lost control and went into the barrier and the bike followed me in and to be honest I can not remember the crash at all. I crushed my vertebrae and fractured my T11, the part closer to my neck. After the crash I knew I did something as I could not feel my feet and my neck was tingling.”

It has been a hard year for Mossey; he fell in the gravel at the opening round at Brands Hatch and injured his finger, which required surgery. He has missed a lot of track time, but the rider vows to fight on and has podiums and race wins in his sights.

“It has been a tough year for me. It started off badly when I damaged my finger at Brands Hatch at the beginning of the season, and I was out of action for a few weeks as I had to have plastic surgery on it.

“I was then back at Knockhill and I did not have the best of results, but I got on the podium at Snetterton which was good. I then went to Russia with PTR and that was a good experience, and it would be good to be in the World Supersport series next year.

“The championship is now out of reach for me, so I just want to end the rest of the season on a high and try and get as many podiums and race wins as I can and start afresh next year.”
