Swan Yamaha boss Shaun Muir has said he believes his team are already 80 per cent of the way to developing the package they need to set the British Superbike pace in 2012 after only a single day's testing at Cartagena which saw Tommy Hill walk away from a fourth-gear crash.
The reigning champion crashed going through an off-camber left-hander at the end of the day but walked away unhurt. Hill completed 60 laps at the Spanish track while team-mate Noriyuki Haga did an further ten. Muir says he is happy with the laptimes being set but would not reveal how fast his riders are going.
"Tommy's bike was extensively damagaed but that wasn't the concern. He is fine and will be back and raring to go in the morning. I'm over the moon with the progress we have made today and I think we are already 80 per cent there. There is only so much you can do on a dyno so we have work to do on the fuelling front but that is what testing is for," said Muir, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track this evening.
"We aren't overly concerned with laptimes at this stage but we have been recording them. I will say that I am pleased at where we are. We know the benchmark we set last year and we know what other people have been doing around here recently. Nori has adapted so well to the bike and to a track he has never seen before. He is very keen to push the development of the bike along, so it has been a good day."
