Taboo Motorsport was launched in 2002 by current Relentless GP125 rider Michael Hill, who is now expanding the team to give opportunities to others and is looking for another rider for next year.
In addition to Hill the team also run Max Thomas in the ACU Academy Cup championship, he recently joined the team at round eight of the championship at Knockhill.
Taboo Motorsport is looking to run either another 125cc or a 600cc in 2009, which has yet to be decided. The team will review all interests regarding the placement and are looking for more before they decide.
Hill started racing at club level in 1995 and simply cannot get enough of the two stroke machines. His career has seen him participate in numerous championships including the EMRA Superteens, New ERA Club Ministock, MRO National 125cc championships. Hill also won the North East Supersport 125cc title twice before moving to the British level in 1997.
Besides fulfilling his need for speed Hill is not only responsible for the running and promotional side of the team, but spreads his talent into commentary and media roles for both British and European race events. Both him and the team are well respected throughout the racing paddock. However his adrenalin addiction never dies as he continues to return to the track even after sustaining a broken back at the end of last season.
Things are certainly coming together as the team now obtain technical guidance from Pete Banks, six times Scottish Champion and have recently discovered that the Honda 125cc Hill has been riding all season had a twisted frame. Once it was replaced the bike transformed and Hill obtained his best result so far this season at Croft over the weekend.
After qualifying 13th he obtained his first point scoring round of the season finishing in ninth, Hill said: “I can always run in the top ten but always seem to start in the top 20. I just couldn’t get higher and I feel bad because of all the team give up their time for free and I want to get the points.”
“Pete Banks made some changes, we fixed the frame and the bike is working. I qualified in the top 20 which was a bonus and I wanted points this weekend. I am happy with the changes and the way the bike is handling now. Thanks to the guys Pete Banks and Ian Green regarding the technical setup and Steve Kinghorn my mechanic.”
Second rider Max Thomas started racing mini-motos when he was about eight and progressed onto the Aprilia 125cc at the age of 12. After two years at club level and at the age of 14 he has joined the British championship this year with Team Thomas Racing.
To aid his progression further he has now joined forces with Taboo Motorsport, Thomas said: “My aim was to get to British and learn the tracks. I have been on a standard bike all season, but now the extra support from Taboo is really good. At the start of the year nobody could tell me things or show me the track, now I have Michael [Hill].”
