BeWiser Kawasaki’s Chris Walker can’t wait to kick off the MCE British Superbike season in style, with a new team and a bike kitted out with brand new parts - that both he and his team-mate Danny Buchan were able to try out during the Pro-Test at Cartagena.
Walker is enjoying working with Team Manager Tommy Hill and the pair are happy to share their years of experience both on and off the track together. The ‘old but gold’ racer has changed quite a lot on the Kawasaki, and even though he took a tumble in the gravel on Saturday at Cartagena he was still able to gather some valuable data.
“I haven’t ridden since November and I have been brushing the cobwebs away, and just chipping away. We have got a different engine tuner and crew chief and the biggest different on the bike is the K-Tech suspension, as I am used to running Ohlins,” said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the team garage at Cartagena.
“I had a little blip and the bike went in from under me on Saturday, just after I had done my fastest lap - but that was only a little crash, and I had a mini siesta and lie down on turn one, but everything has been going well. The Kawasaki’s are mega, they have got some great bits on there; the engine has been built by MSS, and the swinging-arm is factory style.
“We have CNC cylinder heads and the chassis are modified a bit to what they have in World Superbikes, and the bikes have a full colour Motec dash, and Arrow exhaust too. I have got a big back brake as I use that more than a thumb brake, so the bike is a bit bling. But they look great and are superb. The tank is also modified to distribute the weight to a slightly different place too.”
It is a case of young versus old, and experience over youth with Walker and team-mate Danny Buchan, but the racer thinks this dynamic will work well as they can both help each other, and push forward to get both bikes into the Showdown.
Walker said: “It is really exciting and a fresh start for me and this year feels really special. The team has got a high profile with Tommy behind it. The colour scheme of yellow and black is really great, and there are no other Kawasaki’s that colour either.
“I have a lot of information about the Kawasaki which I can bring to the team, and I want to help Danny too, and there is always good to have old and new, experienced and young working together this year. I was so excited to come out here, and I can’t wait to get started, and back on a Kawasaki is where I want to be, and where I belong.”
