Padgetts Motorcycles Steve Brogan is hoping to turn things around this weekend to challenge main rival Alastair Seeley of Relentless by TAS Suzuki at the Andover circuit of Thruxton.
The Liverpool rider is currently second in the championship and following the first qualifying session yesterday he is on pole by 0.2s. Talking about his season so far Brogan said: “I had a third at Brands, second at Oulton and fifth at Donington due to gearbox problems, this has now been sorted so hopefully we can turn it around this week end.”
“Alastair Seeley is at a good pace, I’m not disappointed as already I am lapping faster than last year, and I’ve certainly upped my game also with working out. I am doing a lot more cardio now, as last year I broke my ankles, actually the Achilles bone so I haven’t been able to run all winter. Both have recently healed and I’ve lost half a stone since Oulton, not intentionally, but I feel better for it.”
Fitter than he has been all year and returning to a track at which he took the Superstock and Supersport race wins in 2008, Brogan is stronger than ever to take the race win. It was not Brogan’s intention to return to the championship he claimed the title in last year, but due to a decision by Honda UK he found himself obtaining the ride for Padgetts.
Brogan said: “It was a surprise when I was told by Honda, but the only difference for me is the colour of the bike and I work with different guys, but they are fantastic. I hope to retain the title and put on a strong show. I want to keep the relationship with Honda, I’ve ridden for them for the last four years.”
“We had a bit of bad luck last week but need to get over it, Thruxton is one of my favourite circuits, it is not like anywhere we go.”
