Thruxton BSB: Brookes 'annoyed' with race weekend

Tyco Suzuki rider Josh Brookes did not come away from the second MCE British Superbike round at Thruxton a happy man. The brace of wins he wants eluded him and hewas pipped to the post by Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane Byrne in race one, and for race two finished fourth.

Both races were filled with numerous safety cars, crashes and eventually a red flag was produced in final race on Sunday, cutting the race by six laps. Brookes and his team had a strategy which involved using a harder tyre for both of the races, but because of the short distance in race two, even the best laid plans back fired on the Aussie rider.

"I am pretty annoyed, both races were well thought out, from our strategy side of things. In the first race we went with a harder tyre, a lower performance tyre, but it meant that at the end of the race we would have had more performance left to fight. The pace car then came out and gave the other guys with the softer tyre a chance for their tyres to cool down, meaning that their's wouldn't wear as much," said the Aussie racer, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"Also there was a lot of misty rain throughout the race, hindering the harder tyre making it even worse than the softer one, but that was the decision we made. It did pan out well, as we did have a good fight at the end of the race, it was just Shakey that beat us, and I was actually quite happy with the end result.

"In race two we had the same strategy: harder tyre, battle with the guys, and then at the end of the race when their tyres were suffering I would then have moved forward. If I had known it was going to be 13 laps I would have just gone with the softer version and I would have beaten them just with the extra performance of the tyre.

"But I can not complain too much as a couple of guys got injured, I am a bit upset that we did not get a better result, but consideration goes to the guys that fell."
