For the first time since the TNT Sport and Eurosport merger was announced, Stuart Higgs has been able to tell his side of the story.
Stuart Higgs, British Superbike Series Director, recently discussed the merger of Eurosport and TNT Sports on the Off Track Podcast. The announcement of the merger had caused a split in the community.
During an appearance on the Off Track Podcast with Dave Neal, Higgs reassured British Superbike fans and shared his thoughts ahead of the 2025 season.
"Essentially live BSB racing has been behind a paywall since 2001, nothing has changed in terms of the principles of what we see today," Higgs began.
'Where we were has been rolled into something else, that is not something we can control...'
He clarified that the merger between Eurosport and TNT Sports was beyond his control, as it was a decision made by Discovery, who owns both parties, rather than BSB "selling out."
"It is critical that the Championship is on a serious, credible, and well-promoted trusted media sports brand and there are two. It is Sky or TNT, that is the reality," Higgs continued.
"People who have been used to paying a certain price point are asking 'why have we sold out?' But we have not sold out, where we were has been rolled into something else, that is not something we can control.
"But as a consumer, you do have power, because it is the art of the deal... There are deals to be done, and people perhaps need to take a step back and absorb it.
"Yes, we are on a pay TV platform, but we have always been on a pay TV platform. Yes, it is more, but the offering is more. If you add up all live BSB races, all live MotoGP races, and all live World Superbike races, we are into over 100+ live races on the TNT linear platform. That is the offering, it is all there."
Ultimately, Higgs verified that Quest will continue to broadcast portions of BSB free-to-air during the 2025 season.
"I want people to be reassured that all the highlights will still be on Quest, free-to-air, and at least a third of the season will be live on free-to-air. Everything else will be on TNT."
