British Supersport rider Joe Francis suffered several injuries in a crash at the start of the Feature Race at last weekend’s Donington BSB, some of which have now been operated on.
The crash happened on the exit of the first turn of the Feature Race, with Ready4Racing Vision Ducati’s Francis falling in the path of the pack behind. A second rider, who was unsighted, hit Francis after he fell.
Francis has injuries to his ankle, as well as a broken femur and fibula.
In an update posted to social media, Francis confirmed he has had surgery on his ankle and femur, and that the broken fibula does not require surgery.
Francis’ post reads: “Thank you to everyone for your messages and well wishes the last two days. I’ve not been able to reply to many people yet due to being in hospital and a lot of pain.
“After a crash at turn 1 at Donnington, I was struck by another rider who was unsighted, [I’m] feeling lucky to just have the injuries I have.
“Yesterday I had a successful operation on my femur and another one on my ankle, alongside my fractured fibula (doesn’t require surgery).
“I want to thank the incredible medical staff and the Marshalls at Donnington Park for their responses and getting me off to hospital quickly.
“I also want to thank the Ready4Racing team for their incredible support following my injury.”
Francis’ crash brought out the red flag and he was taken away from the scene via ambulance. The restarted race was won by World Supersport regular Tom Booth-Amos, who was wildcarding at the British Championship event with his PTR Triumph team.
The fourth round of the British Supersport Championship is scheduled for 14-16 June at Knockhill.
