Dan Linfoot took his sixth win of the season in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship with victory in Sunday’s race at Thruxton.
The Optimum Bikes Racing Honda rider just holding off Richard Kerr (AMD Motorsport Honda) and Billy McConnell (C&L Fairburn Properties/Jackson Racing Honda). Victory saw Linfoot extend his lead over Kerr in the championship standings to 11 points with seven races still to go.
Linfoot got the jump off the line to lead into turn one but contact between Lewis Rollo (IN Competition Aprilia) and pole man Kerr saw them both drop back although the latter quickly recovered to move into third and the order at the end of the lap was Linfoot, McConnell, Kerr, Alastair Seeley (Synetiq BMW), Ashley Beech (Jones Dorling Honda) and Tim Neave (Marvel/HCL Motorsport Honda).
Like Saturday, the front three soon edged away and behind there was another group of three now comprising Seeley, Rollo and Neave after Beech ran straight on at the chicane, dropping back to seventh as a result.
Less than three quarters of a second covered the first three riders after three laps, their gap to new fourth placed Rollo now almost two seconds, and a lap later Kerr moved into second for the first time, relegating McConnell to third.
Linfoot, Kerr and McConnell continued to run nose to tail, just a quarter of a second covering them on lap six and Kerr got to the front for the first time on lap seven with McConnell taking over second shortly afterwards as Linfoot dropped back to third. Further back, Beech had regrouped and had moved up to fifth once more.
There was nothing to choose between the front three with five laps to go but Rollo and Beech were edging closer, and the gap was down to 1.4s as they looked to make an impression in the closing stages.
Linfoot moved back into the lead on lap 11 and immediately tried to make the break, Kerr the only rider to go with him and with two laps to go, McConnell was now a second adrift with Rollo a further second behind.
Going into the final lap, just 0.098s separated Linfoot and McConnell just as rain spots began to fall on the far side of the circuit and that allowed McConnell to close right in. However, Linfoot had it all under control and he held them both off, just 0.354s covering them at the chequered flag.
Rollo ended up in a lonely fourth with Beech taking a strong fifth ahead of Neave with Joe Talbot (JR Performance Racing Honda), Seeley, Brayden Elliott (DAO Racing Kawasaki) and Shaun Winfield (TAG Racing Honda) completing the top ten.
