2026 MotoGP Thai Grand Prix Results, Saturday: Sprint

Gold and Goose

Results from the MotoGP Sprint at the Thai Grand Prix at the Buriram International Circuit.

Pedro Acosta took victory in the MotoGP Sprint in Thailand, the Spaniard securing his first win of any kind in MotoGP, and KTM's first of any kind since Brad Binder won the Jerez Sprint in 2023.

Acosta's win came after an almost race-long battle with Marc Marquez, who assumed the lead after pole sitter Marco Bezzecchi crashed on lap two.

Acosta was only ever able to attack Marquez at the final corner, where Marquez was able to square him off on the exit and beat him to turn three.

On the penultimate lap, though, Acosta was able to get through at turn six when Marquez lost the rear at turn five and slid wide. The Ducati rider responded at the final corner, making light contact with Acosta who ran off-track. The incident was put under investigation and Marquez was given a 'drop one position' penalty which he served before the final corner on the last lap.

Marquez stayed wide entering the last turn, trying to carry more momentum than Acosta out of the corner and beat his compatriot to the line, but this didn't work and Acosta was able to take the win.

Behind, Raul Fernandez had a quiet ride to third, although the battling between the front two brought him to within a second of the lead by the finish.

Ai Ogura made it a Trackhouse 3-4, while Jorge Martin took fifth on the third Aprilia to finish.

Brad Binder took sixth ahead of Joan Mir and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who recovered to eighth after being run off the track by Alex Marquez at turn three on the first lap. Marquez went on to finish 11th.

Di Giannantonio was ninth for much of the race, behind Francesco Bagnaia, but beat his compatriot to being the second Ducati, behind Marquez, in the final couple of laps. Bagnaia took the final point in ninth, while Luca Marini completed the top-10.

Qualifying

Marco Bezzecchi secured pole position in qualifying in Thailand. It came after a crash in FP2, and despite a crash in Q2, the Italian falling at turn three in the final practice before going down at the final corner in his last time attack lap of qualifying.

For the Italian it's a third straight pole position, as it is for Aprilia, firsts in MotoGP for both.

Marc Marquez took second to disrupt what after one run looked set to be an Aprilia front row lockout, although Raul Fernandez was at least able to make it two Aprilias on the front row having come through Q1.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was fourth-fastest ahead of Jorge Martin, who was second after the first run, and Pedro Acosta who improved late on to go sixth-fastest.

Alex Marquez could manage no better than seventh, ahead of Ai Ogura and Franco Morbidelli on the third row. On row four, it will be Joan Mir, Brad Binder, and Johann Zarco.

Francesco Bagnaia was the major name to miss out on Q2, finishing third in Q1. He'll start 13th.

Michele Pirro has a grid penalty for the grand prix for impeding Alex Marquez in Practice yesterday, but qualified last anyway.
