Preseason is over and Mooney VR46’s Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi are buzzing for the inaugural MotoGP round of 2023 at Portimao.
An impressive showing across the entirety of winter testing leaves the Tavullia team confident as the first of 21 rounds arrives this weekend. And while both Marini and Bezzecchi will line up on year old Ducati machinery, the pedigree of the GP22 was still clear to see as they claimed top five positions as the Portimao test drew to a close just over a week ago.
“The first GP is always special, perhaps even more this year,” Marini explained. “The most fought season ever awaits us, the level is very high and also the new formula with the sprint and then the race will give us many emotions.
“I’m happy, I feel good,” he continued. “The preseason was really productive and I immediately felt at ease with the Ducati. We are ready, as a team, we have a great opportunity to make the most of these first weeks, and then during the season, to achieve ambitious goals.
“The wait is over!” Bezzecchi added. “I’m happy to be back on track for the first race, with an extra year of experience on my shoulders, and after a series of very positive tests.
“With the new bike I immediately felt the difference, especially in terms of gas and aerodynamics, and I feel good.
“I can’t wait to try the new schedule, it won’t be easy to get used to it, but I’m sure I can be competitive on both distances.”
