Fermin Aldeguer has suffered a significant injury ahead of the start of the 2026 MotoGP testing campaign.
Aldeguer has suffered a broken left femur on 8 January, only one month before the first test of 2026 is due to take place at Sepang in Malaysia on 3–5 February.
The Spanish rider’s injury was confirmed by the Gresini team via social media. The post confirmed he will have surgery on 9 January.
“Fermin Aldeguer sustained a fracture to the shaft of his left femur during a training session in Valencia and is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow in Barcelona,” Gresini’s social media post reads.
Aldeguer will enter his second season as a MotoGP rider in 2026, and his second with the Gresini team. His rookie year saw him take victory in Indonesia towards the end of the year. There were further podiums in France and Austria, and two Sprint podiums in Aragon and Indonesia.
The injury, of course, is a major setback for Aldeguer’s second season in the premier class, and could mean he will miss part of the preseason testing schedule. At the very least, he will test during February without being at full fitness. He is also now extremely unlikely to be fully fit for the first round of the 2026 season in Thailand, after which there is a three-week break before the second round in Brazil on 20–22 March.
The Spanish rider’s recovery timeline will likely only be known once he has undergone surgery on Friday.
