Colin Edwards' current Forward NGM MotoGP team today officially confirmed they will lease engines, chassis and swingarms direct from Yamaha with Britain's FTR supplying the rest of the required parts.
The team will receive 2013-spec works motors but run the spec-Magneti Marelli electronics so will benefit from 24 litres of fuel instead of the factory-option 21 litres with Yamaha Masahiko Nakajima saying he expected it to be a competitive package, particularly in a straight line.
Although no riders have yet been confirmed, it would seem that Nicky Hayden and Aleix Espargaro are well in the frame which leaves American Edwards somewhat left out of a team he helped to create in the first place.
Yamaha confirmed they would be carrying out an on-track test in Japan with an M1 fitted with the Magneti Marelli software, to test and ensure the package’s competitiveness. The Japanese factory would however not be providing full data on the M1, saying that NGM along with FTR will be free to set up and design the bike chassis how they wish.
