'I am not happy, we did not improve at all' - Repsol Honda riders react to the Barcelona Test

Gold and Goose

The prototype 2025 RC213V underwhelmed Repsol Honda riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini.

In the 2024 MotoGP World Championship Honda continued their struggles. The Japanese manufacturer finished last in the 2024 Constructors World Championship and was last in the Teams World Championship.

The Repsol Honda duo of Joan Mir and Luca Marini finished 21st and 22nd in the MotoGP Championship. The Spaniard and the Italian were the bottom two full-time MotoGP riders in the Championship standings.

At the Barcelona Test Honda were hopeful that they would make a step forward after five difficult seasons. However, the Japanese manufacturer did not arrive with a full 2025 prototype, but instead a large amount of new parts.

'At the moment I think that it is slower than the one that we had during the GP.'

After completing 67 laps across the one-day test Mir ended the test in 15th place, 1.2 seconds slower than the fastest rider.

"You have to be positive and still believe, I still believe but today I am not happy," Mir admitted after the test.

"We did not improve at all, we still have the same problems as before. This is our reality at the moment. Hopefully, we have a test in Jerez next week, there I think we will start to receive some things. I just hope that they will help us cut the difference to the other manufacturers.

Marini spent his debut year with Honda fighting at the back of the field. The Italian scored points on six occasions and ended the year with 14 points to his name, two more than KTM Test Rider, Dani Pedrosa.

The 27-year-old is more positive than his teammate but admitted that the new bike he tested is 'slower' than the bike he had during the Solidarity Grand Prix.

"I had many new parts to try, it looks like this will be the base for next year so I spent all day on this prototype. At the moment I think that it is slower than the one that we had during the GP. But there are some good points and some interesting points that we need to improve. Also with the settings we have a lot of margin to improve, but some things also went bad, which is normal."
