'I burned myself... the heat problem has never been this bad' - Joan Mir was left disappointed after the Thai Grand Prix

Joan Mir is disappointed after crashing out of the top ten at the Thai Grand Prix this weekend.

The Thai Grand Prix was a promising weekend for Honda after a terrible 2024 MotoGP season.

Honda did have two riders inside the top ten during Sunday's race, but Honda HRC Castrol rider, Joan Mir, ended up crashing out of the race.

The 2020 MotoGP World Champion was in the battle for a top seven finish before he crashed at the final corner.

"That was a disappointing end to what was actually a good start to the season," said Mir, after crashing out of the Thai Grand Prix. "With our pace, we could have finished close to the top five today."

Many riders have complained about the heat during the 26-lap Grand Prix on Sunday. Mir is one of the riders who got burnt by their machines during the race.

The Spaniard went on to say that the heat problem during Sunday's race was the worst that he has ever experienced.

Mir said: "I burned myself! It was a challenge to even stay on the bike. The heat problem has never been this bad."

Despite Honda's clear improvements in the season opener, they were unable to match the Ducati's. Former Honda factory rider, Marc Marquez, did the double in Thailand whilst Ducati locked out both podiums.

Mir is optimistic that Honda will be able to battle with the three other manufacturers throughout the year.

"We can't compete with the Ducatis at the moment," Mir stated.

"But the rest of the field is within reach, this weekend we proved that we can keep up."
