After a year working together Frankie Carchedi expects big things from Marc Marquez in 2025.
Frankie Carchedi spent the 2024 MotoGP season as Marc Marquez's crew chief at Gresini Racing. However, for the 2025 MotoGP season, he will not be following the Spaniard across to the Ducati Lenovo Team.
Throughout the 2024 season, Marquez won three Grands Prix, claimed a sprint victory and had two pole positions. Despite missing out on the title fight he still managed to finish third in the overall standings.
Despite not joining Marquez in the Ducati factory team Carchedi already expects great things from the Spaniard.
“Yeah... we'll have a chat at the end of the year!” Carchedi told our colleagues at Crash.net.
“I don't want to say too much, but I know exactly how I think it will go: Second year on [the Ducati], effectively a two-year upgrade in machinery… The guy got 20 podiums [in 2024], so I'll leave that one at that!”
Marquez's debut year on the Ducati GP23 looked sensational when compared to the other riders on the same machinery as him. Other than Marquez only two GP23 riders claimed podium finishes with Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez both standing on the rostrum once.
Carchedi was then asked about the difference between the Ducati GP24 and the GP23 last season:
“I've had lots of practice on how to answer this and I'll repeat basically what I’ve previously said: The comparison for us was the other GP23s and trying to be the best of those.
“That's what Marc did at Honda, against the other Hondas. You couldn't compare him with the Yamahas, Ducatis or other manufacturers. And it was the same for this year.
“To finish ahead of two [GP24s, Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli] at the end of the year was quite incredible.
“The Ducati engineers are on such a roll. You think that they can't improve and yet they find a way to improve the bike even further every year.
“All bikes have their advantages and negatives. There were just a couple of areas, let's say, that were tricky for us to compete."
