Jorge Martin is in control of the MotoGP World Championship as the riders prepare for the final race of the season.
In the final round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, Jorge Martin could become a MotoGP World Champion. After four years in the premier class, the Spaniard leads the title fight into the final round of the season.
The Spaniard has a 24-point lead over his rival, Francesco Bagnaia. Martin is now in control compared to 2023 when he was the chaser. At the Solidarity Grand Prix, in Barcelona, Martin could become the first Spanish MotoGP Champion since Joan Mir in 2020.
"I am really excited for this weekend," Martin told MotoGP.com. "A bit nervous but I am always nervous on race weekends. My approach has been different from last season.
"Last year I was obsessed with what I could achieve, now I am more focused on going day by day. We will try to be competitive and do the same as always."
'We will try to have a normal weekend... I will do my job.'
Martin has now been the chaser and the rider in control of the MotoGP World Championship going into the final round. The 26-year-old explained how much better it feels to arrive at the final round in control of the Championship.
"I prefer to arrive in this position because it depends on me," Martin explained. "Last season was more difficult, we tried to make psychological games, but it is much harder from that side and easier to make a mistake.
"We will try to have a normal weekend, that will be key, I will do my job, the noise will be there but I will do my best not to hear it."
Martin's rival, Bagnaia, could receive help from fellow Ducati riders in the final race of the season. However, Martin does not expect any games from the Italian due to him being a 'clean rider'.
"I need to focus on myself and be at 100% because I want to perform at my top level. Last season I did not because I was thinking more about the Championship. It is a normal weekend for me, but I need to be prepared.
"Pecco can say whatever, but I do not know what is going through his mind. I think he is a very clean rider and respectful and I don't think he wants to lose that so I think it will be a normal weekend."
