Marc Marquez reveals his stance on team orders and his views on the 2024 MotoGP title fight.
Despite winning three Grands Prix in the 2024 MotoGP season, Marc Marquez sits fourth in the Championship with two rounds remaining. The Spaniard is out of the title fight, but can still claim third come the end of the season.
Marc Marquez's future teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, is fighting for the MotoGP title against Jorge Martin. There had been speculation coming into Malaysia that Ducati would start to favour Bagnaia and get other Ducati riders to aid him.
However, both Marquez and Enea Bastianini stated that they had not received any team orders.
"At the moment we have not received any orders," Marquez told MotoGP.com. "Because, in the end, they are two Ducati riders. You need to do what you can and you need to do your best. As we saw in Thailand in the Sprint Race I was behind Pecco and I could not overtake. Then in the race I tried to overtake him twice and fell down trying to push too much. Let's see if you are smart enough you know what you need to do, it is not necessary to have team orders."

"As we saw in Australia and Thailand if I can go for the victory I will try."
The eight-time World Champion assessed the current situation in the title fight and explained what both riders need to do. Marquez was honest and said Bagnaia has 'no chance' if he does not take risks as the Championship is in Martin's control.
"Pecco no chance," Marquez stated. "He needs to attack and take risks. He needs to recover points and take extra risks. Martin has a small advantage but enough to finish behind Pecco and not take extra risks. But if you want to manage the situation you need to have speed, so let's see who is faster."
Finally, Marquez revealed that he would go for victory if it is possible in Malaysia and Valencia. The Spaniard will be careful with his overtakes on Bagnaia and Martin, but will not shy away from a fight for victory.
"As we saw in Australia and Thailand if I can go for the victory I will try," Marquez told MotoGP.com. "Obviously, you are fighting against two title contenders. It is one thing to overtake in dry conditions when things are under control, but it is another thing to overtake in wet conditions when you never know if you will lose the front or not. You need to do your best, and if I can go for the victory I will go but I will try to do my job."
