'It is possible to get back in love' - Jorge Martin discusses his decision to stay with Aprilia

Gold & Goose

Jorge Martin believes it is possible to rebuild his relationship at Aprilia despite months of 'fighting' with the Italian manufacturer.

On Thursday at the Czech Republic Grand Prix, Jorge Martin announced that he would be remaining with Aprilia Racing for 2026.

This comes after several months of 'fighting' between the 2024 MotoGP World Champion and the Italian manufacturer.

Initially, Martin made it clear that he would leave Aprilia by the end of 2025, one year into his two-year deal.

Despite holding talks with several other manufacturers over a deal for the 2026 season, he has decided to backtrack on his decision and stay put for 2026.

"The first question, I think Honda was an option, it was also not the only option, this I have to say," Martin confirmed on Thursday.

"The second question, it is like a real relationship, you fall in love, then you have some fights. But finally, if you like the other person, you will work hard to stay together and fight for your goals.

"This is the point we are at now. I cannot say that anything happened. For sure, we had a big fight with Aprilia, but now is the time to build together.

"Because we both at the moment want to be together, and to win in the future, so this is the important thing and I think it is possible to get back in love."

During the press conference, it was clear that Martin seemed uncomfortable about the situation, and did not seem excited to be remaining with Aprilia.

"I am super enthusiastic," he stated when a member of the media pointed out his lack of enthusiasm.

"I don't really enjoy being here today, I enjoy being in the paddock, it is just strange to be here on my own.

"But I am really looking forward, and everything is where it has to be."

Martin's sudden decision to remain with Aprilia has raised some eyebrows. After months of fighting with the Italian manufacturer, he was asked what changed his mind.

"For sure, it is a mix of things," he explained.

"First of all, before coming back to racing, I wanted to close things; I did not want to come here and still be in a fight with Aprilia or anyone else.

"So, I wanted to do it quickly and stop before coming back. Because I don't want to go on track with all of this stuff running through my mind.

"Also, I noticed the improvement, my first feeling from what I saw in the Montmello Test, Malaysia and Qatar was really bad. I had crashes, I had injuries, that is why I doubted myself a lot.

"Now I can see from the test, how Aprilia are involved with me and how they are helping me to be in a safe place, then I changed my mind."
