UPDATE 15.00: Jake Dixon is declared unfit and is OUT of the Qatar Moto2 opener - FULL STORY HERE

Jake Dixon has been taken to the medical centre for checks after suffering a high-speed, high-flying accident during the crucial Saturday morning Qatar Moto2 Practice 2 session.

The CFMoto Aspar Team rider was bidding to secure his place in the all-important Moto2 Q2 session later today but suffered a major off at the fast Turn 13 right-hander while on a hot lap.

Caused when his Kalex slid out from the rear, the bikeโ€™s subsequent bite back into position had the knock-on effect of launching Dixon up and over the handlebars, the Briton travelling airborne for quite a distance before impacting the asphalt hard on his hip.

Such was the ferocity of the crash, Dixon would end up just on the exit of the next turn, forcing stewards to throw the red flag. Brief television images show Dixon was conscious but unable to get up himself.

A tweet from CFMoto Aspar Team confirmed Dixon has now been transferred to hospital for a CT scan but early diagnosis suggests no broken bones.

CFMoto Aspar Moto2 team boss Nico Terol went on to tell TNT Sports: "Unfortunately he had a big high-side, it happens, but now the most important thing is he has broken nothing and he has been taken to hospital to see if everything is OK.

"Now we wait, I don't think he will have anything broken, he just needs the CT scanner to find out about his health," he continued when asked whether there was any inkling over whether he will be fit enough to race on Sunday.

With rain around the Lusail International Circuit rendering Fridayโ€™s P1 all-but-useless towards the fight to secure one of the fourteen places to get into Q2 automatically, attention turned to a single session shootout in P2.

Fastest of all was Aron Canet, who set a big lap record on the new Pirelli tyres with a 1m 57.176s, giving him three tenths in hand over second place man Somkiat Chantra, with Zonta van den Goorbergh confirming his strong form from FP1 with the third best time.

Of the riders failing to make Q2, the biggest names to miss out were Joe Roberts and Filip Salac.
