Jorge Martin gets his 'revenge' at Mandalika

Gold and Goose

After crashing in 2023 and the 2024 Sprint Race Jorge Martin got his revenge at Mandalika.

Jorge Martin returned to the top of a Grand Prix podium this weekend at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Spanish rider had not won a full Grand Prix race since Le Mans earlier this season. However, after crashing out of the lead in Indonesia in 2023 and the 2024 Sprint Race 'The Martinator was still respectful of the circuit.

"I got revenge! After last season's crash and yesterday's crash today was a difficult race, after Lap 13 I had some ghosts on my mind," Martin admitted. "Every lap on corner 11 and corner 16 I was trying to be very careful we had a lot of wind on that side, and I was struggling to turn I was like riding a scooter!

"I knew I was losing a lot in those corners to Acosta but I was ok, I knew even if I lost a lot in those parts I could push in others. I think I was very clever at understanding the situation at the beginning of the race, and then being able to push a bit more every lap."

Martin beat MotoGP rookie sensation, Pedro Acosta, at the Indonesian Grand Prix in impressive style. However, the Spaniard was still full of praise for his compatriot after the 27-lap race at such a challenging circuit.

"Acosta was incredible today. He was pushing hard, even in the laps when I was trying to make a gap he was staying under a second away. For sure he is strong and I am happy that I was able to perform really well.

"I tried to remain calm and be my best version, even if the rider is one or eight-tenths behind it is important to do the same things. I did not try to change or push more or less, I was at my maximum so it was Pedro who was catching and making mistakes."

MotoGP heads to Motegi next weekend for the Japanese Grand Prix, an event that Martin did the double at in 2023. After the race, the Championship leader was asked if his previous results at Motegi fill him with confidence for next weekend.

"You need to build confidence from zero every race weekend," Martin revealed. "This weekend I didn't touch a click on the bike, it was impressive!"
