PBM Aprilia's Michael Laverty has said he needs to make the same kind of step with setup that has see Colin Edwards rise back to the top group of MotoGP's CRT class and believes some new parts at Silverstone will help.
The Irishman, whose pace in Sunday's Indianapolis race would be been good enough for 12th place in 2013, is having the same trouble as Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith in the early laps of races but thinks a solution is on the horizon.
"I had good pace in the latter stages of Indy but, by then, everyone had gone. I am struggling to get feeling for the front in the early laps but I'm hoping a revised front end set up will make a difference this weekend and then we have a few new parts arriving for Silverstone that hopefully will make a difference," said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"I really want to get back to the level that Colin Edwards has got to over the last couple of rounds. It doesn’t take a massive breakthrough to get to that group, you can stumble upon something and you have a better base that makes the whole job easier.
"At the minute I am lacking that because I am always just fighting for front-end feeling so if I can get that I can really load the front then it will make a huge difference; that’s what we need to focus on over the weekend at Brno and fingers crossed it puts us in a good position going into Silverstone."
