Lorenzo denies 2021 Ducati MotoGP contract rumour

Three-time MotoGP king Jorge Lorenzo has denied Ducati have offered him a job for the 2021 season but said he would listen very carefully if one came along.

The Mallorcan 'retired' at the end of 2019 after injury made it difficult to compete on the factory Honda. However, he quickly got a job as a Yamaha test rider and was pencilled in for wildcard rides until they were wiped out by covid19.

Rumours of an offer to return to Ducati in 2021 spread like wildfire after Andrea Dovizioso's manager said he was expecting a pay rise not pay cut for his rider but Lorenzo denies this is the case.

But he did admit to receiving a call from Ducati ringmaster Paolo Ciabatti.

"He called me and we talked about our lives and our families, but we didn't talk about work. I'm currently very happy with my situation, I enjoy doing many things that I couldn't do as a professional rider," said Lorenzo.

"But I cannot say that I do not lack the feeling of winning and celebrating with the team. So if there was an opportunity to race for the world title again, I would listen to the offer and analyze it. Because winning is what drives me.

I would consider this opportunity carefully because I think that at 33, I am still able to win a title with the right tools. There is currently no offer, so I can't think about it. But if it comes to that, I will certainly listen to it.

"To have the right material for victory, there are currently only two options for me to choose from: the Yamaha factory team, which has already committed the drivers, so to speak, and Ducati. But even if it doesn't work out with a comeback, I'll be happy with my life."

Lorenzo recently picked up a free Lamborghini Aventador. Lamborghini is owned by the same firm as Ducati...
