'Many people will discredit me' - Toprak Razgatlioglu remains realistic ahead of his MotoGP move

Gold & Goose

Toprak Razgatlioglu knows that he could struggle in his rookie MotoGP season compared to his World Superbike form.

At the Hungarian World Superbike Round, Toprak Razgatlioglu opened up on his move away from World Superbikes to the MotoGP World Championship in 2026.

After eight years in the World Superbike Championship, Razgatlioglu decided that it was time to make his 'dream' move to MotoGP next season.

The two-time World Superbike Champion will be 29 years old at the start of the 2026 season and was aware that the opportunity to move to MotoGP could pass him by as he got older.

"As you all know, I have always been very well in Superbikes and I am still very happy," Razgatlioglu told GPOne.

"Here in BMW, I have found an extraordinary family, wonderful people. The same goes for the paddock, where I met a lot of people in the industry.

"My dream, however, has always been to race in MotoGP, and this year I had a real chance to go, so I took the ball and did not think too much about it. I couldn't let this opportunity pass me by."

Razgatlioglu is aware that in MotoGP on a Prima Pramac Yamaha, he will not be a top runner on the opening weekend.

The Turkish rider has set himself realistic expectations and knows he 'won't see the podium' in 2026.

"In World Superbikes if it goes wrong I find myself fighting for a podium, in MotoGP on the other hand I won't even see it," he stated.

"I will have to maybe fight for a 13th place, as well as an eighth, or a fifth. I am aware of everything that awaits me, which is that it will not be easy at all and that many people will discredit me.

"I will no longer get the results I get today, but this is my biggest challenge, and that is why I chose to cultivate the dream of MotoGP."

The Yamaha M1 has struggled in recent weeks, but Razgatlioglu would not discuss the Yamaha M1 as his focus remains with BMW.

"I follow the races and know well what the values are on the field," he explained.

"At the moment, however, I am focused exclusively on BMW. Then, when I get on it, I will start to understand what to do and how to behave.

"This is all part of my challenge, knowing that 2026 will be difficult, but then in 2027 everything will change because of the new rules."
