Marc Marquez will not start the 2023 German MotoGP feature race after injuring his finger in a spectacular fifth accident of the weekend at the Sachsenring.
On a torrid weekend for a rider that has previously topped the podium on a record 11 occasions, after Marquez had already suffered a crash on Friday and then three more during Qualifying on Saturday, he was down again in Warm-Up.
A high-speed fall at Turn 12 that flicked Marquez over the handlebars and destroyed his Honda RC213V, though he was passed fit to compete despite hurting his hand, the decision was taken for him not to take the start as a precaution.
A damning indictment of Marquez's situation at Honda in a season beset by accidents and injuries that have prevented him from starting three rounds this year already, his withdrawal means only one of Honda's four riders - Takaaki Nakagami - will take the start of this afternoon's race.
It comes after Alex Rins was ruled out with a broken leg, while Joan Mir is sidelined by a flare up of a hand injury.
