Marco Bezzecchi will try to 'use Q1 as an advantage' at the Malaysian Grand Prix

Gold & Goose

Despite not directly qualifying for Q2, Marco Bezzecchi is trying to look at going through Q1 as an advantage.

It was a disappointing Friday for Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia at the Malaysian Grand Prix, as he was not able to directly qualify for Q2 on Saturday and will have to go through Q1.

The Italian rider ended the opening day in 15th place, and no Aprilia riders ended the Friday afternoon Practice session inside the top ten.

Bezzecchi and his Aprilia Racing crew were able to make a step during the opening day, but were not able to make a big enough step to contend with the ten riders who qualified for Q2.

"It was a tough first day here, this morning was not too bad, but the conditions were super tough," Bezzecchi told MotoGP.com on Friday afternoon.

"But in the afternoon, when we put the correct tyres in, I made a step. But it was not big enough to be close to the other guys. We worked during the session, but we were not able to find a step, especially for the time attack.

"Unfortunately, it was not enough to go directly through to Q2. But we will work tonight to try to use Q1 as an advantage and to be stronger tomorrow."

The Italian rider explained that he has been struggling to find traction and getting power to the ground around the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.

"I was struggling in the dry to put the power to the ground, and struggling a lot to find traction, this for me was the main issue," he explained.

"When you are struggling to find traction, you force a lot on the braking, to try to recover. But it was not the way to stop the bike better. So, we will try to understand if, in terms of riding, if we can change our approach to all the corners."
