The fourth round of the 2024 Moto3 World Championship brings the series to Spain and the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto.
Qualifying
The morning rain that had made P2 wet for Moto3 had mostly dried up in time for qualifying. Some wet patches remained at the beginning of Q1, especially around turn two, but by Q2 the track was almost completely dry.
David Alonso had topped every Moto3 session of the weekend until Saturday morning, but the slightly inconsistent track conditions opened an opportunity for someone to displace the Colombian from top spot.
With three minutes to go, Collin Veijer had done just that, and sat on provisional pole position by over three-tenths-of-a-second. But, with two minutes to go, Alonso was back at the top; unchallenged for the remainder of Q2, Alonso remains unbeaten in a Moto3 session since the Portuguese Grand Prix.
David Munoz was the closest rider to Alonso, just over two tenths back after following the #80 CFMoto Aspar rider on what was the final flying lap of Q2 for both riders. Munoz, though, was the only rider within a second of Alonso, with Veijer qualifying third but 1.059 seconds off the pace.
Joel Kelso qualified fourth, ahead of Ryusei Yamanaka and Angel Piqueras on row two; while Ivan Ortola heads up row three from Joel Esteban and Tatsuki Suzuki. Nicola Carraro completes the qualifying top 10, joined by his MTA teammate Stefano Nepa and Leopard Racing's Adrian Fernandez on the fourth row.
It was a disastrous qualifying for Tech3 GasGas, whose points leader, Dani Holgado, crashed at turn five on his first flying lap, and a few minutes later the second GasGas machine of Jacob Roulstone went down in almost identical circumstances at the same corner. Neither rider set a time, Holgado having to go to the medical centre after his fall.

P2
Rain on Saturday morning meant the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto was not in a condition that allowed the Moto3 riders to improve on their times from Friday afternoon's P1 session, meaning that it was the P1 session that decided the Q1/Q2 seeding for qualifying for the lightweight class.
David Alonso was fastest yet again, but this time by under one-tenth-of-a-second over his CFMoto Aspar teammate Joel Esteban.
Angel Piqueras completed the top three, while Adrian Fernandez made it a Leopard Racing 3-4, and Matteo Bertelle ensured there were three Hondas in the top five.
Jose Antonio Rueda had reported feeling ill from Thursday, hence his lack of participation in Friday's sessions. He is replaced for the rest of the weekend by Vicente Perez, who finished 11th in P2 and already has Moto3 experience this year with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team, having stood in for Xabi Zurutuza at the first two races of the year before Zurutuza became old enough to make his debut last time out in the US.

David Alonso was once again fastest in the second practice session for the Moto3 class in Spain, topping P1 by almost one second.
This time, it was Jacob Roulstone who was closest to Alonso, but 0.969 seconds separated first from second on Friday afternoon.
Championship leader Dani Holgado had a better showing in the afternoon than the morning, finishing fourth-fastest.

FP1
First practice for the Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix was dominated by David Alonso.
The Colombian topped the FP1 times by over one second, his 1:44.590 comparing to David Munoz' 1:45.669.
It was a more complicated morning for championship leader Dani Holgado, who ended FP1 in 12th place, over two seconds off the pace of Alonso.
Jose Antonio Rueda was declared fit for the Spanish Grand Prix on the Thursday before the event following his appendix surgery in the middle of the Grand Prix of the Americas, but did not set a time in FP1.
