Factory Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo turned around a very lacklustre start in today's opening MotoGP free practice session at Motorland Aragon, going from 14th on the timesheet at the halfay point to top of the table with his final run.
The reigning world champion just nipped ahead of championship leader Marc Marquez with the last flying lap of the period, going round in 1'49.753 to top his Repsol Honda compatriot by just 0.008s.
Dani Pedrosa, who also got off to a slow start, bagged third place but is two-tenths slower than Lorenzo on a 1'49.947 with Alvario Bautista was consistently in the top five and just kept Valentino Rossi at bay for fifth with his penultimate lap of 1'50.219.
Stefan Bradl and Britain's Cal Crutchlow were locked together throughout with the German just coming out on top for sixth while Andrea Dovizioso is the leading Ducati in eighth but a second off the pace.
Nicky Hayden and Bradley Smith round out the top ten with Aleix Espargaro, Hiro Aoyama and Hector Barbera topping the CRT chart. Michael Laverty, who is getting used to the PBM ART bike and a new crew chief in the shape of Scott Smart, was 21st.
