Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow reckons there will be a good scrap in Saturday's Assen MotoGP encounter but it won't be for the win as he thinks that stablemate Jorge Lorenzo will clear off into the distance.
Lorenzo spent the second free practice session using the harder compound Bridgestone tyres and did his fastest lap at the end which Crutchlow says is an omen that the former world champion has to pace to make like a tree when the lights go outl
"I hate to tell you, but you're going to see the most boring race ever. Lorenzo is going to run away like you've never seen. Race-pace wise, we are on the same as everyone else, 1'35.3 is the time to be on, it's what everyone is on except for Lorenzo," said Crutchlow, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"He did the whole session on a hard tyre and did a 35.0 on his last lap. I think we are in the ballpark, 0.4 of a second is close and you're going to see a good battle but I don't think it will be for the win. Ben has got good pace this weekend, no doubt about that, I always said he would turn it on at some point in the season and that seems to be now.
"As far as I am concerned, we were in the top-six anyway with the hard tyre and that it my aim for the weekend. I want to aim for the podium but I have to be realistic so top six and decent championship points will make me very happy.
There was quite a bit of pain with the ankle this morning and it took me longer than normal to get into a rhythm. But overall I am really pleased to be second because I am still quite sore. I am sure it is going to get better the more time I spend on the bike but I had arm pump this morning too because I was compensating for the ankle. My ideal time was actually fastest so that is a really big positive and gives me a good boost to take into tomorrow.”
