MOTOGP ASSEN: SINGLE BIKE RULE DROPPED FOR 2010

A proposed rule which would limit riders in the MotoGP class to one bike per meeting was officially dropped yesterday and the current practice session lengths of 60 minutes will remain.

The Grand Prix Commission, which comprises bosses from Dorna, the FIM and IRTA announced that teams will be allowed to present two bikes per rider at technical inspection, and that the hour-long practice sessions will remain  for MotoGP.
It is believed the rule has been dropped because it would make flag-to-flag racing very difficult. Riders would have to come in for Le Mans-style wheel changes with wet tyres, but technicians would also have to change from carbon brakes to steel, soften suspension settings and change engine maps.
The commission also announced that Dunlop would be the single tyre supplier for next year's Moto2 class and wheel sizes will be limited to 17in front and rear, with 3.75in and 6in rims.
