Britain’s Cal Crutchlow will ride with an upgraded chassis and seat unit at Austin’s MotoGP round this weekend which will take him much closer to the spec of RC213V that Marc Marquez currently uses.
But the CWM LCR Honda man warned the new package is more about consistency in corner entry and wouldn’t be generating a significant increase in pace, may just a tenth of a second a lap or less.
At the moment Crutchlow uses the chassis that Marquez and Dani Pedrosa tested at Brno and Valencia, and hated. It was binned in favour of a new one at Sepang I and Crutchlow’s new chassis is similar to the one agreed on in Malaysia.
“There is more consistency in corner entry, which is where we have been struggling. It’s not going to be a head and shoulders thing, it’s for consistency. We can see they can do some things different to us and we know why. Dani and Marc had already tested the bike but got rid of it at Sepang,” said Crutchlow, speaking in Austin.
“We were told quite early we would get it because of our speed and I believe this will bring us closer to the front. I was happy with my package anyway. I don’t think it will give us half a second a lap, or even two tenths, but if they didn’t believe it was better, then they wouldn’t be on it.”
