Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow is unsure of the new seat unit and tank he was given for the Indianapolis MotoGP round after the setup hampered him at the end of the race but he says he will use it at Brno this weekend.
Crutchlow has been after a fix for his early-race problems all year and in America he was much closer to the leaders after five laps but at the end, the drop in speed meant he was caught by Alvaro Bautista and Valentino Rossi whereas he would usually get quicker as the laps came down.
The British rider says he will work with the new parts in the Czech Republic to see if they can find a setting that will work but added he would rather be fast at the end of a race distance than the beginning.
"All year I have wanted it and now I want to get rid of it. Simply because, and I am not just saying we don't know how to set it up, we really don't. It was clear at Indianapolis was the first race this year I have been the closest to the front three guys after five laps, so there is obviously a benefit but at the end of the race I was useless and in a lot of races this year we have seen how fast I am at the end of a race," said Crutchlow, speaking at Brno.
"Valentino was the one who was fastest at the end of the race last time but at the start he couldn't go. The setup Jorge ran I didn't like and Valentino didn't like. I went one way, he went the other and it showed as at the start of the race I was fast and at the end he was fast.
"We need to work on it. That was our first experience of the bike in those conditions. I was pleased with the start of the race, it has been a long time since I have been within 1.3s to the leader and three-tenths to Marc after five laps, I think we made an improvement in that area definitely.
"I will continue with the new tank but I'm going to hit a point where I will tell them to take it off, I know that for a fact. I'm going to try it this weekend and see how I get on. If I'm not happy I will change it back at Silverstone.
"I've got nothing to lose. I'd rather give up a little time at the start of the race and be strong at the end than lose so much time at the end, like we did at Indy. I will be optimistic as I really believe it is better than what I had, it's just we haven't got the time to say, 'There's a setting, go' because in free practice you can't just do a race simulation every time because you need to change other things."
