Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo has set the fastest time in this afternoon's opening MotoGP free practice at Brno, lapping nearly half a second quicker than team-mate Valentino Rossi with both riders smashing the lap record.
Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa was third quickest, a second off his countryman's time with Monster Yamaha's Colin Edwards in fourth, only slightly more than a tenth slower than the Spaniard.
Mika Kallio, who is standing in for Casey Stoner, managed to put the Marlboro Ducati in seventh and is 1.7s off Lorenzo's time and it is the first time he has ridden the factory GP9.
Andrea Dovizioso and Toni Elias are between Edwards and Kallio while Alex De Angelis, who had been up as far as fifth, dropped into eighth position and crashed at the end of the session.
Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri round out the top ten, with Britain's James Toseland in 11th place, 2.2s off the pace. Pramac Ducati's stand-in rider Michel Fabrizio eventually finished last but is less than four second in arrears.
