Factory Yamaha's Valentino Rossi is again struggling to stop his YZR-M1 and admitted this evening he is losing three-tenths of a second per lap in braking areas around the Catalunya MotoGP track.
The Doctor says it is one-tenth in three different areas and says he will be working on the setup with his crew this evening in order to try and get a magic bullet for morning warm-up at the Spanish circuit but added that, in terms of race pace, he believes he is competitive.
"Unfortunately, we still need something more, especially in the lap of the qualify. We are not so far, with one tenth, we could start in the top five, but I still have to improve because when I try to go faster, especially when I am very close to the limit on the braking and the other guys are able to improve their laptime compared to me. But we work to improve on this," said Rossi, speaking at Catalunya.
"We still have to decide on the setting for tomorrow as there are still three corners where I have to go faster so we try some more modify in the warm up. I have three braking points in the lap where I lose one tenth every brake compared to Jorge and compared to Crutchlow. If I try to brake a but later, for me it is difficult to try and stop the bike for the corner so we are still working on the setting for try to improve this aspect. For the rest we are not so bad.
"The practice of today are not so bad for us. We work well, especially on the race pace. I think that tomorrow the race will be very long and very interesting because it looks like Pedrosa is very fast not in just the qualifying but also in the rhythm.
"Jorge is also fast but we are close and also Crutchlow and Marquez, so have three or four riders that have a good pace, very consistent so will be very interesting to understand. It will be important to do a good start and keep a good rhythm to the end."
