MOTOGP DONINGTON: PEDROSA CONTINUES TO LEAD THE PACK

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa once again put in a last-ditch bid to top second free practice at Donington MotoGP after he and countryman Jorge Lorenzo shared the exact same laptime with only one minute of the hour remaining.

Both riders had done a 1'28.957 lap but Pedrosa had one more quick circuit in his rear Bridgestone and managed to go a little under two-tenths faster, demoting Lorenzo to second. Marlboro Ducati's Casey Stoner eventually finished third fastest after joining the session late and languishing in the middle order for a majority of the hour.
At the top of the session, Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi put in an inital run of laps which saw him drop his time from 1'30.600 to 1'29.686 which took Pedrosa half an hour to better when he went a couple of hundredths faster than the Italian.

Gresini Honda's Toni Elias was sniffing around the top three for the first half an hour of the session but then faded as the usual suspects got into their stride. Lorenzo slowly crept up the order and went quickest with a little under 21 minutes to go, putting in a 1'29.507.

He then put together a string of laps which ended with a 1'29.229, with Rossi second two tenths slower and Stoner in third before a lull in proceedings saw plenty of riders in the pits, changing settings for a final push.

Lorenzo was first to go under the 1'29s barrier with his 1'28.957, which Pedrosa matched a couple of laps later while Rossi was bumped to third and Stoner fifth behind Colin Edwards.

Pedrosa then set the quickest time of the session and Stoner went to third fastest with a 1'29.096, dropping Edwards to fifth. Elias came back strongly at the end for sixth and Pedrosa's team-mate Andrea Dovizioso in seventh.

Britain's James Toseland didn't have the best of sessions, rising up to eighth fastest but the former World Superbike Champion was then shuffled back to 12th, and then 13th after Alex De Angelis' last lap put him 11th.
