De Graaf Aprilia's Danny Webb finished top British rider in the Sachsenring MotoGP 125cc race this morning after championship challenger Bradley Smith sensationally crashed out on the first lap.
Smith got off the line and into the turn one first but ran wide a couple of corners later and tipped off, leaving team-mate Julian Simon a clear run to the line and win by nine seconds from Sergio Gadea and Joan Olive. Smith now drops to third in the title chase behind Gadea but it is still a Bancaja Aprilia one-two-three with Simon leading.
Webb battled his way from the middle of the grid and spent a few laps dicing with Scott Redding, who qualified equally poorly, and they towed themselves up to ninth and tenth with Simone Corsi crashing out. Webb eventually crossed the line in eighth when Marc Marquez lobbed it on the last lap.
It wasn't be for Redding though as his Blusens Aprilia gave up the ghost with only seven laps remaining. The youngster placed it neatly on its side in the gravel trap before walking away.
