Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has been ruled out of the Sachenring race after a crash in second free practice this afternoon bent the titanium plate holding his injured collarbone together.
The Factory Yamaha rider was spat over the highside of his M1 and landed heavily on the collarbone be broke at Assen. He will fly back to Barcelona tonight for an operation to fix the bashed plate before taking a decision on participation in the Laguna Seca race next weekend.
He will undergo checks by the doctor who operated on him after he lands and then a decision will be made as to the best course of action. It is likely he will also miss Laguna Seca so that will give the Spaniard a month to recover before MotoGP moves on to Indianapolis on August 18.
“I have decided to go home and recover after today's crash at Sachsenring. I prefer to focus on surgery to fix the plate that was unfortunately bent during the crash. I will try to recover and be back as soon as possible," he said.
