Britain’s Danny Kent took pole for tomorrow’s Moto3 race at the Sachsenring MotoGP round despite crashing out of the session with 15 minutes left to go and not getting back out on the German track.
Kent, who has been a country mile ahead of the pack this weekend, set a 1’26.490 on his ninth lap and then promptly lost the front at turn six and took wildcard Max Kappler with him. It wasn’t Kent’s quickest lap of the weekend but easily enough to retain top spot - some 0.519s faster than Enea Bastianini.
Bastianini left it until his last lap to jump from 17th to second on a 1’26.939 which dropped Karel Hanika to third. The former Red Bull rookie took a leaf out of Kent’s book, crashing out a lap after setting his fastest time.
Wunderkind Fabio Quartararo bagged fourth place and tops the second row, just ahead of Kent’s team-mate Efren Vasquez who set his quickest time right at the end of the session to demote Andrea Locatelli.
Jorge Martin finished in seventh with Jorge Navarro in eighth. Nico Antonello bagged ninth place while Niki Ajo survived to take tenth place despite nerfing off team-mate Ana Carrasco in the last corner with 20 minutes of the session left.
John McPhee couldn't replicate his form from free practice three and finished in 20th place after being unable to find a clear piece of track.
