Britain's Bradley Smith will start tomorrow's 125GP race at Germany's Sachsenring from second on the grid after this afternoon's second qualifying session - and he is less than a tenth slower than polesitter Gabor Talmasci despite crashing in this morning's free practice session.
The pairing are more than three-tenths quicker than the rest of the field and only ten of the top 11 riders went faster than their qualifying times from yesterday as the track temperature is considerably cooler.
“I’m pleased with the session because I managed to put in some consistent fast laps and I could have gone faster but it was so busy out there especially at the end of the session,“ said Smith, who also qualified on the front row last year. "The crash in the morning was my fault when I was inches off line where the track was slippery.”
One of those was Danny Webb who promoted himself to 10th place with three minutes of the session remaining. Scott Redding, who has said the track is too tight and twisty for his flowing riding style, is down in 16th place and couldn't better his time from yesterday.
