MotoGP CRT could be a thing of the past in 2014 if plans by Honda and Yamaha to produce ebough prototypes to fill a 20-strong grid come to fruition.
The two big manufacturers are following different paths with Honda producing a racer available to purchase while Yamaha will make avilable four engines which can be leased on top of their two factory bikes and two satellite bikes.
Honda will apparently sell their racers, which will be based on the RC213V, for a little more than a quarter of a million each but Yamaha will not be following suit with the M1.
Suzuki's return to the MotoP grid could have hit a false neutral after the manufacturer was apparently told a one-year deal to come back in 2014 would not happen. The other manufacturers are contracted to stay in MotoGP until the end of 2016 and Suzuki have apparently been told they have to commit for the same length of time.
Hiro Aoyama will make his return to the premier class this weekend at Valencia after being asked to replace the injured Yonny Hernandez at Avtinia Blusens.
Honda are still very much against a proposed rev limit and spec-ECU and have put together a proposal to Dorna as an alternative. The firm sees a spec-ECU as a huge barrier to road-bike development and uses MotoGP as an important R&D tool.
