Runaway Moto3 series leader Danny Kent has bagged pole position for tomorrow’s race at the Indianapolis MotoGP round, breaking the class outright lap record held by Jack Miller with a 1’40.703, a little under two-tenths ahead of championship rival Enea Bastiannini who ripped into second place with only a minute left in the session.
But Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira had other ideas and edged Bastianni into second place with a 1’40.791 before Zulfahmi Khairuddin barged him back another place and off the front row with a 1’40.811, so the Italian will start directly behind Kent when the lights go out tomorrow.
Youngster Fabio Quartararo is in fifth place and just over three-tenths off the pace with Brad Binder and Kent’s Leopard Honda team-mate Efren Vasquez in seventh. Nico Antonelli, Jorge Navarro and Jorge Martin round out the top ten. Scotland’s John McPhee ended in 18th place but is more than a second slower than he was here last year.
