Britain’s Scott Redding has reasons to be cheerful after the first day of MotoGP free practice at Indianapolis after setup changes at the Sachsenring centred around a new swingarm have enabled him to remain near the pace in America.
The Estrella Galicia Marc VDS rider ended the day in eighth, the ballpark where team boss Michael Bartholemy believes he should be, and is only a tenth away from the top-five. Redding told bikesportnews.com after the German round that he had found rear grip with the new swinger without having to sacrifice front-end feel and this has continued in Mericky.
"I felt pretty good on the bike today. The track conditions are quite tricky but the feeling on the bike wasn't so bad. We just need to work on a few different areas in the second half of the season. I'm working to improve my corner speed, so we have to try a few small changes on the bike to help that. Overall, though, I'm quite happy with today, because I did most of my laps alone. Of course, we need to see what happens over the rest of the weekend but I'm happy to start with this rhythm,” said Redding.
