Moto2 World Championship series leader Scott Redding finished yesterday's Indianapolis free practice sessions in second place behind Simone Corsi but was building his momentum after the summer break.
What will please the Gloucestershire rider, who will move to MotoGP next season on a two-year deal with an as-yet-unnamed (Gresini) team, is that title rival Pol Espargaro is the business end of a second slower with only one practice session left before qualifying.
"The morning wasn't so good and I didn't really feel comfortable with the bike. I've only been riding motocross and supermoto bikes since Germany so it felt a bit strange coming back to the Moto2 bike," said Redding.
"I just decided to take it easy but I still wasn't so far off the pace and this afternoon I was more in my normal strong mindset and I felt much more comfortable. The lap times were coming relatively easily and I was happy with my consistency. If we can take this package into the race I will be happy with that.
"This is a very important phase of the Championship with three races in a row and I am just concentrating on collecting as many points as I can."
