MotoGP Misano: Sixth for Kent after penalty; Bastianini wins

Runaway Moto3 series leader Danny Kent could only finish sixth in today’s race at the Misano MotoGP round after he was penalised for exceeding the track limits ‘several times’ by race direction, going over the white line on the exit of turn six three times in a row.

Kent was sitting at the back of the leading group waiting for his opportunity to strike for a podium spot but after repeated excursions over the kerb, he was told to drop back one place and that opened a four-second gap to the leading group with ten laps to go. Even setting personal best fastest laps was not enough and he had to settle for ten points after knocking his pace right off in the last three laps

Championship second-place man Enea Bastianini managed to take full advantage of Kent’s transgressions and took his first ever win and 25 points which cuts Kent’s lead back to 55 points with five races left to go. The Italian rider chopped in front of Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira through the flat-out Curvone the last lap and managed to hold off the Red Bull KTM man.

Nico Antonelli bagged the final podium spot with Romano Fenati in fourth, South African Brad Binder fifth and Kent sixth. Scotland’s John McPhee ended the race in 19th place, losing out to Darryn Binder in the closing stages.
