Britain's Cal Crutchlow didn't have the easiest time in practice for the Silverstone MotoGP round today as he had to contend with swapping different tank and seat units, and three wasp stings on his chest.
The Monster Yamaha man alternated between the new tank/seat unit, which gives him better front-end feel at the start of the race, and his older unit that is better as the laps count down. But the errant wasp, which survived his efforts to kill it, didn't help.
"I didn't have a good feeling with the bike. I tried two different bikes, one felt good in one area, the other felt good in the other area but to make a concotion isn't possible so we need to improve for sure," said Crutchlow.
"Actual overall laptime, Lorenzo I could not believe and why he even bothered doing it as there was no need for it. We used the same rear this afternoon as we did in the morning and that's why we were in tenth position. I was quite pleased but I wasn't pleased to see I was two seconds off.
"We need to improve in two sectors. This morning I tried both tanks full and this afternoon I tried both empty so that's probably the reason why we are in the position we are because we have been messing around and not working on a setup.
"Tonight we will make a decision on which way we will go and stick with it for the rest of the weekend. Being in and out of the pits didn't really help and my last run wasn't that bad it just wasn't fast.
"I had a wasp in my leathers. The crowd must have thought I was Tarzan because I was trying to kill the thing, smashing my own chest and I must have looked like a complete idiot but it stung me three times on my chest and I had to come back in and take that out. It was still alive. Those sort of things don't help."
