MotoGP Silverstone: Dixon getting used to ‘less power’ in Moto2

British star Jake Dixon made his Moto2 debut at the Silverstone MotoGP round today and is having to adjust to a lot of differences to his usual MCE British Superbike, including having much less power from the 600cc engine.

Dixon usually rides for the RAF Reserves Kawasaki team but got a call to stand-in for Marcel Schrotter at the Dynavolt Intact team this weekend. He ended the day 30th overall but only three-tenths behind Tarran Mackenzie.

“FP1 went pretty well, we couldn't ask for more really. We were 2.8 off and I felt I could improve again in the next session. We've put the softer tyre in and in the beginning we knocked nearly a second of our previous lap time. So instantly it went better and we were around 22nd, 23rd,” said Dixon.

“I came in and I thought I could go quicker, but I think we need to make a few more changes. We will naturally be faster tomorrow after a night of sleep. I had a bit of a tip-off in the afternoon, but I'm alright and it is nothing to worry about. The bike of course is completely different to the Superbike.

“I jumped on this morning and it had much less power, you have to twist the front harder and brake a bit later. The first few laps had been a bit bizarre, but I have a good team and I'm going to adapt to it.”
