MotoGP Valencia: Crutchlow regretting factory spec change

Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow would like to go back to the spec of YZR-M1 he used at the start of the MotoGP season as he believes the upgrades he has received don't suit his riding style.

The Isle of Man resident said he had a bad day at the office after qualifying in fifth place and is struggling for grip at the front and rear. Mistakes in the 15-minute qualifying also conspired against him.

"Disaster, bad qualifying, bad day. We tried a few settings today and nothing worked. I went just as fast yesterday as I did today and normally you should be improving. I think the other guys are similar. We only used the hard rear tyre in FP4 but we need to improve," said Crutchlow, speaking at Valencia.

"We are struggling; locking the front tyre under braking and struggling with rear grip. It's not the best scenario, we don't have any front grip or rear grip so hopefully we can find something in morning warm-up.

"I made some big mistakes in qualifying, I think my ideal time would have put me fourth but that is too far away from the other guys. I don't like what I am riding, I don't feel comfortable on it. It is not what I am used to and how I like to ride.

"I believe what I had at the start of the year is better than what I have now, even though now I have a factory bike except for the engine. The other settings suit my style. Now it seems we don't have enough grip as I don't like the link they are using. There is a combination of things. We have a tank and seat unit that isn't on the same chassis compared to them (the factory bikes).

"We aren't allowed to go back. The reason why is obvious. Yamaha were good to give it to me after I had signed for Ducati but they won't give it me back. I am sure it is on a scrapheap somewhere. They aren't going to use it again."
