Britain's Cal Crutchlow has put his hands up and admitted today's crash in the Valencia MotoGP final was his fault as he clipped a kerb and went down while pushing hard to catch Valentino Rossi.
The Isle of Man resident blew an engine in morning warm-up which curtailed his time evaluating a new setup which he thought could get him a podium if he was able to hang with the top three.
"No excuses, I was pushing hard and I wanted to get a podium for the team. I believed after morning warm-up it was possible but we lost too much time in morning warm-up on the setting we wanted to try. I blew an engine and managed three flying laps the whole session," said Crutchlow, speaking at Valencia.
"In the race I had a full fuel tank, couldn't stop, Valentino was exactly the same. I was just coming from a bit further behind, I hit a kerb on the inside and that was it. My own fault. When you're trying to gain time here, you tend to cut kerbs and it doesn't work.
"It would have been very difficult to beat Jorge, Dani or Marc for a podium but I was confident that if I could have got to them I would have been able to hang there, but I didn't so that then end of it."
