Three days after Valentino Rossi announced his split with Jerry Burgess and that he was in no hurry to appoint a replacement, it was revealed this morning that ex-works Yamaha WSBK technical man Silvano Gilbusera would take over from the Australian and did so with immediate effect, working in the garage at Valencia.
Rossi worked with Galbusera in 2010 when he rode the Sterilgarda Yamaha R1 in testing at Misano and Brno to evaluate the strength of his recently-broken femur and was apparently impressed
"I work already with Silvano in 2010 when I test the Superbike for try for the leg in Misano but especially in Brno. I feel very good with him, especially the human side, so when I make the decision to change Silvano was one of the names especially for this as I already work with him," said The Doctor, speaking at Valencia.
"For me, I expect a little bit different way to work maybe but is early to say. I expect a lot of effort from Silvano, like the effort I put, and we hope that we are more competitive. Today was a good first day.
Galbusera has spent most of his working life in Superbikes with the odd foray into the premier class alongside American weird kid John Kocinski but Rossi is not worried about his lack of MotoGP miles.
"Personally, I think this is not a big problem. So for this reason, I want to push for Silvano. I decide for Silvano. For me it is not a big difference I hope. What he have to learn first is the tyres. Because now the tyres are the key and for me the bigger difference, more than the bike, is that the Bridgestone are very different from the Pirelli."
